Clever Methods of Removing Corroded Bolts

Rusty bolts can be very difficult to remove especially if they've been stuck for a while. Many Stuck Bolt Removerpeople have devised ways to remove these bolts using common garage tools. If you often encounter rusty bolts, you can try some of these methods to take them out.
  • You can use a chisel and hammer to remove a stuck bolt. You place the chisel across the bolt head and pound it with the hammer. The chisel will cut through the bolt and make a groove. This groove allows you to unfasten the bolt like a slow screw. Alternatively, you can use a triangular file to cut the groove on the bolt head.
  • Mole Grips or locking pliers are one of the common tools used to remove a stuck bolt. Adjust the jaw size a bit smaller than the head of the bolt by turning the adjustment screw in one handle. Clamp the pliers and when it locks, twist the pliers to unfasten the bolt.
If you want an easier way of removing corroded bolts, get the Super Socket. This socket has six movable cams that help in holding the head of the bolt, giving you a good grip. You can get yours from Better Tools and Fasteners. Feel free to contact us anytime if you have questions about this tool.
